PenyuUSB : A Tool To Password Protect USB Mass Storage Ports

USB flash drives are useful for data portability but also dangerous at the same time. It is one of the most common method of virus spreading and also the threat of stealing confidential data on corporate companies. If there are no reason to use a USB flash drive, it would be best to disable it to prevent from future damages that it can cause. One of the easy yet troublesome way to disable USB mass storage devices such as flash drives and external hard drive is by using PenyuUSB.


PenyuUSB is an easy to use application that was designed in order to help you protect USB storage drives. After installation, you will first need to activate the program for free by providing your name and email address. Then the developer of PenyuUSB will send the activation code for you to activate the software. The Execute button will be grayed out if you do not activate the software.

Only those authorised with password can manage the USB mass storage. The administrator can regularly change the password if necessary.

This software can also be used to prevent data from being stolen using pen-drive.

Once activated, the Execute button will be enabled and you can restrict USB storage devices by selecting Disable USB and then click on the Execute button. You can also set a password on PenyuUSB so that unauthorized users can’t use this application to re-enable the USB. The restriction takes effect immediately without rebooting the computer. If you check the device manager while the USB is plugged in and disabled by PenyuUSB, you will see a yellow exclamation icon with the message “A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)”. This means that PenyuUSB has successfully disabled the USB mass storage device.
