USB flash drives are useful for data
portability but also dangerous at the same time. It is one of the most
common method of virus spreading and also the threat of stealing
confidential data on corporate companies. If there are no reason to use a
USB flash drive, it would be best to disable it to prevent from future
damages that it can cause. One of the easy yet troublesome way to
disable USB mass storage devices such as flash drives and external hard
drive is by using PenyuUSB.
PenyuUSB
is an easy to use application that was designed in order to help you
protect USB storage drives. After installation, you will first need to
activate the program for free by providing your name and email address.
Then the developer of PenyuUSB will send the activation code for you to
activate the software. The Execute button will be grayed out if you do
not activate the software.
Only those authorised with
password can manage the USB mass storage. The administrator can
regularly change the password if necessary.
This software can also be used to prevent data from being stolen using pen-drive.
Once activated, the Execute
button will be enabled and you can restrict USB storage devices by
selecting Disable USB and then click on the Execute button. You can also
set a password on PenyuUSB so that unauthorized users can’t use this
application to re-enable the USB. The restriction takes effect
immediately without rebooting the computer. If you check the device
manager while the USB is plugged in and disabled by PenyuUSB, you will
see a yellow exclamation icon with the message “A driver (service) for
this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this
functionality. (Code 32)”. This means that PenyuUSB has successfully
disabled the USB mass storage device.
NOTE: Free registration is required to receive activation code.
